'Removing
a Head Badge'
To
remove a Head (Heron) badge from the head tube of the frame, I
have found the following procedure to work the best. It helps to
preserve the head badge for refitting after the frame has been
repainted.
All
that is required to refit the badge is 3 new head badge
rivets.
To
remove the top rivet slide a sharp blade from a Stanley knife or
similar under the badge, when it comes into contact with the
rivet tap the blade gently with a hammer,
this
will cut the soft rivet in half releasing the badge from the
frame.
The
side rivets are sliced in the same way, see the pictures below.
Once
all three rivets have been sliced, the badge will drop off the
frame.
The
remainder of the rivet can then be tapped out of the frame
and
badge using a small pin punch or nail.
ALWAYS
KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE SHARP EDGE OF THE BLADE DURING
THIS OPERATION AS PER THE PICTURE BELOW.
We
also recommend the use of safety glasses.
Slicing
the top rivet
Slicing
the Left hand side rivet, the Right hand rivet is a reversal of
this procedure.
There
we are! Another job made simple :)
And
there you have it!

comments greatly received.
