The Gary Hughes Restoration
Part 5
Putting the stickers on.
Next came one of the most satisfying part of the build process.
Putting on the lovely bright orange sticker set from Mike Hughes. First of all
I had to determine the exact position. So I took measurements of all the
stickers
from my original space blue bike. This done I decided that the first sticker
to go on would be the seat tube sticker. The tube was then carefully cleaned
with a degreaser and cotton wool which removed all traces of polish. I then
used a water soluble felt tip pen and marked out the correct position on the
Fizzy lemon paint. The backing paper was then removed from the sticker and the
sticker was lined up against the pen marks and pressed in to place. Once I was
happy with the position the sticker was rubbed against the frame tube quite
hard with a soft cotton cloth. after a few minutes the cover paper was removed
to reveal the finished sticker. As shown in the pictures. I then used a damp
cloth to remove the pen marks. The down tube stickers were installed the
same way as the seat tube ones. And finally the chain guard sticker was
applied using the same principle. The Arrow wedge sticker was left off until
all works requiring the frame to be laid on its side, was complete.
