The Gary Hughes Restoration
Part 1
Pictures of my Fizzy Lemon Chopper prior to work starting.
As mentioned previously the frame, forks and chain guard were all from different locations within the UK. The frame and forks were collected from within Kent but the chain guard was collected from St Albans. Once I had these parts they were sent to be striped. All three parts were Acid dipped. Then blasted, cleaned and rubbed down to a super smooth finish. Several coats of rust inhibitor was then applied followed buy two coats of self-etching anti rust prima. Between each coat of paint all the parts were treated to further rubbing down with very fine graded wet and dry.
Once the Frame, Forks and Chain Guard was prepared to a desirable finish, they were sprayed in the lovely yellow colour as seen on the finished bike (Fizzy Lemon). All three parts were subjected to more rubbing down between the coats and once the last coat was complete and dry, all the parts were polished and covered in bubble wrap for there journey home!
The pictures I have attached are of the parts once they were home.
Now came the difficult bit! To attempt to build the bike without scratching that lovely paint work!!!
How I achieved this will be in the next installment.
